FINDING THE RIGHT ADULT ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT FOR YOUR NEEDS

A beautiful smile at any age is important. We offer several orthodontic options to allow adults to get the smile they’ve always wanted.

Orthodontic treatment is not just for children or teens! Currently one in four patients is an adult. Adult orthodontic treatment creates a better bite, making teeth fit better and decreasing the risk of future dental problems such as wear, tooth decay and gum disease, regardless of age.

How Is Adult Orthodontics Treatment Different From Treatment For Teens?

The biggest difference in orthodontics for adults versus teens is that adults are no longer growing. Because of this, adult treatment may take longer than treatment for teens with a similar problem. The biologic process of orthodontic treatment is the same, regardless of age. Teeth move in response to light forces being placed on them over time. For adults, it is common for Dr. Jones to work with your dentist to coordinate care. To reach optimal dental health, Dr. Jones may need to call in other dental specialists such as an oral surgeon, periodontist or endodontist.

Reasons To Consider Adult Orthodontics

Adult Orthodontics
  • Gradual Teeth Crowding: Shifting due to age can cause teeth to become crooked or overcrowded.

  • Difficulty Cleaning: Teeth that are misaligned can be difficult to clean properly, increasing the risk of cavities, tooth decay and other oral health problems. Teeth and jaws that are properly aligned are easier to brush and floss.

  • Retainer Loss: An adult who had braces as a child may consider orthodontic treatment once again to straighten teeth that have shifted over time due to lack of retainer wear.

  • Self-Confidence: Orthodontic treatment results in a beautiful smile and increased self-confidence

  • Improved bite: Correcting how the upper and lower teeth fit together reduces improper forces placed on the teeth that cause wear. It improves your bite and the health of your teeth long-term.

What is Inter-Proximal Reduction?

Inter-Proximal Reduction, or IPR, is the process of reshaping the contact areas between the teeth. Dr. Jones may use IPR in addition to orthodontic treatment such as braces or aligners. This technique is commonly needed for adults who have crowding and need more space or have unwanted spaces between the teeth.
