Braces and other orthodontic appliances work by placing light forces on the teeth over a period of time. The forces on the teeth create a biologic response which causes a remodeling of the areas around the teeth. There are a variety of appliances that can be used in orthodontics depending on the amount and direction of tooth movement that is desired and whether any changes in the bite relationship are needed. Modern orthodontic treatment is safe and predictable.
An orthodontist is a dentist who has undergone additional training at a University and holds a certificate and degree as an Orthodontic Specialist. Dr. Jones has a dental degree as well as an orthodontic certificate and Masters in Dental Science degree. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist who works closely with other dental specialists in providing orthodontic care. In order for orthodontic care to be successful, patients with braces continue to see their dentist for regular dental cleanings and check-ups.
